DataMotion, a health information service provider (HISP) providing cloud-based data delivery and email encryption, has been fully accredited by the Direct Trusted Agent Accreditation Program (DTAAP) for HISPs from DirectTrust.org and the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC). The DTAAP accreditation certifies HIPAA compliance in health data processing and transactions.
DataMotion was reviewed by EHNAC on technical and business practices; organizational resources; and privacy, confidentiality, and privacy, as well as protected health information (PHI) management and transfer processes. Accreditation from EHNAC certifies that DataMotion meets direct secure messaging standards expected of health information exchanges (HIEs) and HISPs. It also helps EHR users comply with Stage 2 Meaningful Use. In meeting or exceeding EHNAC’s criteria, DataMotion proves it is committed to personal business evaluation and industry standard adherence.
Because HISPs interact with HIPAA-protected patient information, exchange participants are under increased pressure to ensure that all transfers are secure and safe from data breaches. Stage 2 Meaningful Use, which came into effect January 1, 2014, requires secure messaging accreditation to protect patient involved in direct messaging exchanges. DirectTrust.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing and enforcing security best practices within the Direct community, including HISPs, patients, and doctors. All DirectTrust.org practices are consistent with HITECH and the Nationwide Health Information Network (NwHIM) created by the ONC. DirectTrust.org was selected by the ONC to administer direct exchange certification for HIEs, HISPs and other data exchange entities.
The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC) is a self-governing standards development organization (SDO) that certifies entities involved in the electronic exchange of healthcare-related data, including HIEs, e-prescribers, and medical billers.
“Endorsed by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), the Direct Trusted Agent Accreditation Program ensures that organizations like DataMotion establish and uphold a superior level of trust for their stakeholders,” says Lee Barrett, executive director of EHNAC. “The need in the marketplace for guidance and accountability in health information exchange is undeniable, and we applaud DataMotion’s commitment to the highest standards in privacy, security and confidentiality.”
DataMotion Direct verifies the sender’s identity when information has been received, as well as the origin of the information. Participants can choose which other users they would like to share the information with, and verify that the information was sent unaltered and confidential. The system is also flexible with the capabilities of other participant networks. It has also been working in partnership with DigiCert to simplify the HISP certification process as part of the DirectTrust Transitional Trust Anchor Bundle. Rather than exchange certifications each time a transaction has occurred, the agreement is working to create a certification system that will ensure each participant is meeting specific security requirements.
