Healthcare Access San Antonio (HASA) is the latest Texas health information exchange (HIE) to be fully accredited by the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC). HASA’s accreditation was also in alignment with Texas Health Information Exchange Accreditation Program (TX-HIEAP) and its operator, the Texas Health Services Authority (THSA), to ensure that it is securely exchanging data.

“By achieving accreditation, HASA has proven its commitment to the highest standards in privacy, security, confidentiality and sustainability in health information exchange, and we commend them on such a considerable accomplishment,” Lee Barrett, executive director of EHNAC said.

THSA and EHNAC announced back in March that they would collaborate on a 60-day review period, from March 24 to May 23, 2014, for the TX-HIE accreditation program. During this review period, Texas HIE participants would have to prove that they are properly securing and managing protected health information (PHI) based on state and federal laws.

“Increasing confidence and trust in organizations involved in exchanging and maintaining electronic health information will not only foster greater participation in HIEs, but also support sustainability of HIE efforts in Texas and across the United States,” Tony Gilman, THSA CEO.
